Why buy a new one when you can fix it and still be comfortable? And as it turns out, what can seem like a daunting task can sometimes be quite easy - all it takes is a few tricks and patience.
In conversation with Eve , corsetry specialist and lingerie repairs, I learned that lingerie repair is "an art full of detail"and can be really rewarding. For many of us, a bra is not just ordinary underwear - it is often an important part of everyday comfort.
"Women come with all sorts of problems, but the truth is that sometimes they are just very attached to their favourite bra and feel bad about throwing it away."
Why is Lingerie Repair a Good Idea?
Instead of replacing with new, we increasingly prefer to repair. Why? Eve puts it bluntly: "Ladies sometimes struggle to find the perfect bra. When they find one they feel good in, they will fight for every bit of it!" This commitment to comfort and one's own appearance often becomes more important than a new purchase. And one more thing: repairing is an eco-friendly choice - it reduces waste production and makes us care for what we already have. For some women, that bra is more than a piece of fabric - it's comfort, memories and something they just feel good in.
The Most Common Problems with Underwear and How to Fix Them
Do you know what most often damages our bras? Washing. Yes, throwing them in the washing machine, forgetting to use protective bags or simply heavy use means they start to lose their shape and elasticity over time. Fortunately, Eve has shared some tips on how to fix basic lingerie problems.

- Worn shoulder straps - "The shoulder straps are losing elasticity and are just worn out. This is a really common fault. However, replacing the straps is the easiest repair. We can select new ones of better quality that will last longer," explains Eve.
- Wire replacement - Wires are a classic in the world of broken bras. Has anyone else never had wires sticking out? "Ladies often replace the wires themselves, but they don't always know which way to put them in. Sometimes they put them in the opposite way, so that the bra doesn't fit as it should," Eve warns. So if the wires are starting to poke out, it's better to get them to a specialist.
- Loose girth - If a bra starts to feel too loose, you don't necessarily have to throw it away. "As ladies lose weight, the bra can become loose over time. Then it is enough to tighten the circumference so that it continues to perform its function," Eve explains. It's a small change that makes the underwear hold up as it should.
- Combination of elements from two bras - Eve also talks about more interesting projects: "Sometimes a client brings two bras - one with a nice front, the other with a back that is still in good condition. In that case, we can combine the two pieces and create something new!" This is a great example of how to approach underwear repair creatively.
How do I look after my underwear to make them last longer?
Taking care of your underwear is essential if you want them to last a long time. Eve reveals some simple tricks that can work wonders.
- Hand washing - "Hand washing is the best thing you can do for your underwear," he says. advises Ewa. I know most of us avoid hand washing, but if you must throw your bra in the washing machine, be sure to do it in a protective bag!
- Gentle detergents - Another thing is to use gentle washing liquids. "Don't reach for strong powders, as they will quickly damage the fabric and decorations," he says. Ewa warns. Gentle liquids are much gentler on delicate fabrics.
- Drying flat - Did you know that drying your bra flat can help it retain its shape? "Don't hang it by the straps as this will only stretch the girth. Lay it flat and dry it naturally and it will last longer," Eve adds.
Is Lingerie Repair a Cost-Effective Choice?
Lingerie repair is in many cases a really beneficial option. "When we have a luxury bra model, it's not only cheaper to get it repaired, but it also gives us the chance to continue using something that fits well," she says. notes Eve. It is worth considering that the repair reduces waste, which is a big plus for many women. This approach fits in with the trend towards ecology and caring for the environment - we gain more than just a refurbished bra.
It also happens that women bring underwear bought in second-hand shops. Eve tells us: "On a few occasions I have had clients who found luxury lingerie in a lumpy shop but needed some minor adjustments. Size adjustment, replacing the fastenings - it's not difficult for me, and they can enjoy a new and unique find."
Underwear repair - is it the new trend?
More and more women are opting for repairs rather than buying new things. As Eve says, "The 1980s and 1990s was a time when you repaired everything because it just wasn't easy to buy something new. Now we are going back to those times, but for environmental reasons." Lingerie repair is a way to reduce consumption and create something unique.
Bouduar is even planning to introduce an option online bra repairs. Imagine being able to send in your favourite model to be repaired, fitted or reworked, without leaving home! A really good idea for the future.

At Bouduar, we want you to be able to enjoy your underwear for as long as possible -. favourite brasthat are comfortable, tried and tested and simply loved. Underwear alterations
- Converting a bra into a nursing bra - Often pregnant women or breastfeeding mums would like to continue wearing their favourite bra. We can convert it into a nursing model with detachable cups, making the lingerie practical and comfortable for everyday use.
- Replacement of the fastener with a front fastener - If the fastener at the back causes a problem, we can swap it for the front one, which is sometimes more comfortable and accessible for everyday use.
- Sewing in pocket for breast prosthesis - For women who have undergone surgery, we have a denture pocket sewing service. This is a solution that allows you to feel confident and comfortable in any situation.
- Sew-in insert pockets - Sometimes a small change is all it takes to give a bra extra volume. The insert pockets allow you to increase the push-up effect in a discreet way.
Fitting underwear
- Tapering of the bra circumference (classical back) - Sometimes a bra simply gets too loose, for example after losing weight. By narrowing the circumference, you can again feel the perfect fit and the support it offered at the beginning.
- Shortening and replacement of shoulder straps - The straps stretch over time and lose their elasticity. We can shorten or replace them so that the bra fits well again and holds the bust as it should.
- Underarm trimming in a bra - Sometimes a bra compresses in the armpit area, which is uncomfortable. We can correct this element to provide more comfort and freedom of movement.
Underwear repair
- Replacement of tunnel and whalebone - When the underwires start to slip out or the tunnel where they are located is worn through, the bra no longer works well. By replacing these components, we restore the shape and comfort of the lingerie.
- Repair and replacement of hooks - The hooks are the parts that wear out the fastest. Replacing them with new ones is a simple way to refresh your bra so it looks and functions like new.
Each of these alterations is not only a way to prolong the life of the lingerie, but also an opportunity to adjust it. Because the body, the lifestyle, everything changes after all. We believe that lingerie should not only look great, but also stay with you for as long as possible and support you every step of the way.
Whatever has changed in you - from lifestyle to silhouette - we are here to help your underwear keep up with these changes.
Summary
Repairing lingerie, especially bras, can be a great solution - both for your wallet and the environment. As Eve says, "A well-fitting bra is a treasure. It's worth taking care of." So the next time your favourite bra loses its shape, think twice before throwing it away. You might just need to fix it up a little to feel comfortable and beautiful in it again.
